Let's save the Czech Republic for our children before it's too late.
We, the undersigned, believe that it is not possible to continue to maintain the situation that has prevailed in our country since spring.
Drastic government actions have had an unfathomable impact on all citizens, especially lower income groups. Enormous damage has already been done not only to property, but also to the social, family, cultural and psychological well-being of all the country's inhabitants.
Chaotic measures of constantly closing and opening the entire country, with the prospect of a vaccine that may not come anytime soon (or even ever), are no longer possible and sustainable in the long term.
The WHO also warns against the lockdown strategy as the main measure.
It is not possible to protect a small percentage of the population by destroying the lives of everyone else.
We demand!
1) Immediate return of pupils and students to schools – time is running out!
▪ The right to education is a fundamental social right and is enshrined in Article 33 of Act No. 2/1993 Coll., the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.
▪ The government measure affects almost a million elementary school students, 400,000 high school students and 300,000 university students
▪ We are one of the few EU countries where schools are closed.
▪ The measure is harmful to the psychological development of children and their education
▪ Schools are completely insignificant as a source of infection, according to ministry data, only 1.4% – 4.8% of all infections.
▪ Covid-19 is not dangerous at all for children
▪ The measure represents a major intervention for single mothers and healthcare staff both in hospitals and social services
▪ Children may spend time with grandparents, exposing them to unnecessary risk
2) Targeted protection of risk groups
▪ After consulting with doctors, identifying people at risk (e.g. general practitioners). We consider this to be the first step towards targeted protection - because it is these people who primarily end up in hospitals and fill their capacities. (E.g. divide patients into several groups according to risk - based on data and doctors' experience to determine which comorbidities are the most risky)
▪ Choose an appropriate strategy for targeted protection and prevention based on the number of potentially at-risk individuals
▪ The detailed design must be a consensus of experts from many disciplines – not just one narrowly focused group of government scientists.
▪ Start implementing this targeted protection strategy immediately, instead of testing thousands more asymptomatic people in the non-at-risk group.
▪ Possible suggestions and inspirations: Prof. Jiří Beran's measures for the protection of 65+ Further, for example, the Barrington Declaration, signed by thousands of scientists and doctors
3) Easing of measures and the country's gradual return to normal
▪ Apply gradually – hand in hand with the protection of at-risk population groups
▪ Objective and balanced information to the public without missteps and unnecessary scaremongering
▪ We demand complete openness of all relevant data that the state obtains in connection with the pandemic
▪ We call for the search and adoption of targeted and long-term sustainable measures that will work even after the country returns to normal. The virus will be here with us even after the lockdown.
