(Interview for Parlamentní listy – 30.8.2025)

In an open interview for ParlamentníListy.cz, writer Jan Tománek talks about the state of freedom of speech, the role of Czech Television, Chat Control, and censorship on social media. He does not spare the government coalition or the "system's sales comedians" and emphasizes: "We must all start with ourselves."

interview 2

Mr. Tománek, you are quite active on social media and your posts often provoke strong reactions. How do you perceive the role of social media in the current political and social debate? Should these platforms be more strictly regulated, or is their openness a basis for democratic debate?

The phrase "more strictly regulated" is, of course, completely perverse - ANY regulation is bad and I don't see a single reason for it, apart from the censorship they are trying to achieve with this step, of course.
Already now, some things are clearly criminal and are defined by law, and if they appear on social media, then the police should take action. That's all.
It's actually the same as if we had some street confidants and volunteer militias on the streets who, out of their convictions, take care of public order. And that's exactly what various Manipulators, Demagogues, and other non-profit organizations that are suckers into the system do.

A proposal has emerged at the European level to introduce so-called Chat Control. It would involve a blanket scanning of citizens' private communications. What do you think of that?

This is a complete blunder that contradicts the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms - Article 13 directly deals with the secrecy of correspondence, which is INVIOLABLE.
The funny thing is that the same TOGETHER government, which has now embarked on a "fight" against this slander before the elections, was still cheerfully declaring it a great thing in 2021...
You can always reliably recognize them not by their honeyed campaign speeches, but by their fruit...

In light of the growing problem of disinformation and fake news on the internet, what is your stance on the debate about regulating this phenomenon? Many argue that it is necessary to find a balance between freedom of speech and protection from manipulation. What is your opinion on this issue?

But he THERE IS NO “disinformation” problem – even that word is a complete slur only by those who want censorship.
I even read a definition by some progressive politicians that sometimes disinformation is true information, but perhaps taken out of context, or it's simply an inappropriate truth because it helps the "enemy"... Where are we?!
There is no need for any artificial balance – people must be able to read everything and then choose for themselves, otherwise you turn them into a mindless herd. But of course that is the goal of some…

The film The Great Patriotic Film, which was supported by Czech Television, has attracted considerable attention and controversy. Given that CT is financed by mandatory fees from all concessionaires, who do not necessarily share the views expressed in this film, how do you view CT's support for such works? Should CT only finance films that are politically and ideologically neutral, or should it also support projects that may be controversial for a part of the public?

MY BOOKS ABOUT FREEDOM AND THE TIMES WE LIVE IN

When people started talking about this movie, I was afraid that it would turn out exactly like this – but the movie seems to have exceeded even my expectations. It is far worse…
It was clear to me that this wasn't going to be just any objective look at the Ukrainian conflict. I suspected that they would choose three "stupid wretched people with three teeth" and show them how terrible war is, but as it turns out, the creators took this to a whole new level, because one of the protagonists let it be known that she was an ordinary extra actress and they chose her through casting... so those stupid "wretched people" had to be played by actors in the end.
The film, its creators, and its audience are probably best described by a review I found on the internet:
"It's not perfect, sometimes it even makes unnecessary assumptions. On the other hand, why wouldn't it make assumptions when it comes to our future. Not now, but in ten, twenty years. For the tears of pro-Russian pigs here, a definite five stars."

Should Czech Television remain apolitical, or is its mission to support art that provokes and brings up controversial topics? An example is the show Chi Chi na gauči, which aroused great emotions among the public.

"Should she stay...?" Now you really made me laugh - ČT was NEVER apolitical and always stroked the system. I still remember the ČST broadcast about the intervention on November 17th and then a few days later, when everything turned around, the exact same reporters, editorial staff and management were praising Václav Havel and jingling their keys.
Czech Television has long ceased to fulfill its "public service" function; this was best demonstrated during Covid, when instead of being the voice of reason and science, it became the mouthpiece of the pharma lobby.
And some Chi Chi? I noticed it in the press – it's exactly the same example of petting the hair. Today, various perversions and LGBT nonsense are "in", so Czech Television "proudly" goes against it, and the sales comedians just support it.
During Covid – that is, since 2021 – I took down the antenna and didn't turn on the TV, and I think it was one of the best things I've done in my life. Try it too!

The elections are approaching. Recently, we have witnessed highly intensive election campaigns. However, there are also regular disruptors of these events. For example, the group around Mr. Oganesyan, the most visible in the media right now is probably Mr. Pshenak, focuses on targeted attacks on public figures, damaging the property of “enemies” and filming these events for profit on the Internet. How do you perceive this phenomenon and how should society respond to such activities?

I was in Příčovy, where this "gang" appeared - but I would recommend a similar approach to the system's salesman comedians: ignore them and demand that the police do their job.
Eagles don't catch flies that land on shit...

Prime Minister Fiala and Minister of the Interior Rakušan announced over a beer that they would not cooperate with Babiš. How do you perceive their public promise? Was it just a formal declaration, or does it really reflect their deeper political conviction that certain political entities have no place in democratic political debate?

What a liar and a mafia member declares has no weight at all, so why even consider such a "promise" or attach any weight to it?

In connection with the STAČILO! movement, there are concerns about the return of communists or socialist tendencies to Czech politics. Many believe that these ideas still have support in Czech society. Do you have similar concerns? And what should the state do to ensure a stable democratic society?

I am definitely not a STAČILO! voter, but paradoxically their program and actions are today far more right-wing than the left-wing and subsidized SPOLU program...
Many people have not understood at all – or do not want to see – that the totalitarianism they are trying to warn against does not necessarily have to come from the communists or from the East, but on the contrary, that the main danger today is in Brussels.

Fial's government faces economic challenges, such as rising inflation, public debt, and high living costs. How do you assess its actions in these areas and what do you think it should do differently?

Do you mean the "challenges" they caused themselves?
I have to laugh again – it's like an arsonist who sets fire to a house and then ceremoniously carries out one painting and expects praise and recognition from the homeowner...
Any actions of this government today cannot be seriously commented on – today it is only possible to laugh with a desperate laugh and wait for that huge crash into the wall if society does not wake up in the fall and send this government where it belongs. But the answer is of course not YES, which introduced Covid totalitarianism and terror here – but unfortunately many people have long forgotten that and their main thought is only “get rid of Fiala…”

Foreign policy under Prime Minister Fiala is in many ways focused on deepening relations with the European Union and supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. What are your views on this orientation and what should the Czech Republic do to strengthen its international position?

Our country should try to be a sovereign state, as it was to some extent during the First Republic. And stop playing the "good" West and the "bad" East. And what's worst, stop with the comedies that if Russian oil and gas are bought through American and European dealers, then it's good and worthy oil...

There have been recent concerns about the state of freedom of speech in the Czech Republic, particularly in the context of laws aimed at regulating disinformation and hate speech. What is your opinion on this trend and what are the potential dangers for democratic debate?

I'm afraid that today's situation is in many ways very similar to the situation before '89, I wouldn't even be afraid to say that in some stupidities it already surpasses it.
I think the problem is mainly general human narrow-mindedness, ignorance of history, and blind ideology, which was perhaps only present to this extent in the 1950s.
The news coming out of Germany or England is crazy – the police are prosecuting people for what they wrote on the internet, and meanwhile gangs of migrants are literally murdering and raping their fellow citizens.
Our only luck is that these migrants don't want to come here (yet) and Western countries are more advantageous for them, but I'm afraid that this could change very quickly.
But it's all about all of us and what we allow the system to do, that we have to learn to simply say NO to some things, to take an interest in public life and not "throw it" to whoever gives you goulash or donut a week before the election.

I think you address these questions in your latest book, "Start with yourself". Why did you write it?

After the book "A Guide down the Rabbit hole", which shows in short chapters and contexts the Covid fraud, the Green-deal fraud, banking and currency machinations and those who rule behind the curtain, I wanted to focus on what each of us can specifically do about this bad situation.
How important it is to be able to say NO to the system and that there will never be a politician or a savior for whom people are still waiting in vain and naively.

The "small wheels" of the gear train should start with themselves.
It could be a teacher who knows that the new framework curricula full of progressive trends, the suppression of LGBT, the relativization of history, family, man and woman, and the number of sexes are incredibly bad, but he SILENTLY complains in the office to his closest colleagues instead of standing up for the children and saying a resounding NO!
These are ordinary journalists who write deliberate lies for money and create this everyday evil - this is not done by some anonymous media outlet, but by those individual journalists through their daily work, literally selling their souls and the future of their own children.
These are psychologists who were silent during the senseless Covid lockdowns and now, when it is "allowed", they are sounding the alarm about the increasing number of depressions and suicides in children.
… and I could continue like this, as I do in the book “Start with yourself", but the help is only up to us, we have to do it from below, revive society and everyone has to start with themselves first...

Well said, Mr. Tománek! I completely agree! Perhaps there is still some hope for a "better future" if there are people like you among us! By the way, I have already read The Rabbit Hole Guide twice and now I am starting to read Start at Home.
